Appealing Property Tax Assesments

TRIM Notices (proposed property tax bills) will be mailed no later than August 24. For 25 days after the mailing, the Property Appraiser's office conducts an "Interview Period" to providing taxpayers with an explanation of their assessment.

If your opinion differs from the Property Appraiser's appraisal, you may want to file a Value Adjustment Board (VAB) petition ($15). An assessment appeal is an attempt to prove that the estimated market value of your property is either inaccurate or unfair. You are required to present evidence supporting your estimate of market value to the VAB Special Magistrate.
