Fed Reduces Rates to 2%

The Federal Reserve trimmed interest rates another quarter point, to 2%, as expected, but left us guessing about whether further cuts would be needed.

The Fed action, after a two-day meeting, pushed benchmark short-term interest rates down to the lowest level since late 2004.

It also marked the seventh consecutive rate cut by the central bank since it began easing credit conditions last September to combat the growing threat of a recession brought on by a deep housing slump and credit crisis.

Ben Bernanke say's The rate cut will mean lower borrowing costs throughout the economy as banks reduce their prime lending rate, the benchmark for millions of consumer and business loans.

Though the Fed move was expected, it leaves us puzzled about where the central bank goes from here.

Unless the economy falls into a worse slump than currently expected. We at Bradley E. Arnowitz, P.A. & Associates view this statement as signaling somewhat of a pause.

The central bank is walking a tightrope, trying to jump-start economic growth while also confronting the risk that if it overdoes the credit easing it could make inflation worse down the road.

Fed policy-makers have been confronting a bleak landscape. The U.S. housing market has shown some signs of hitting bottom in certain areas of the country such as Bal Harbour, http://www.balharbourlistings.com/ and Aventura, Florida http://www.aventuracondolistings.com/ and Beverly Hills, while in others no sign is near and credit markets still appear strained.

The comming economic and housing sector reports will be a tell tale sign of where were headed. Let's hope that Bernanke and the Fed look to avoid another boom and bust cycle! With their focus on sound money, fighting inflation, along with long-term economic stability.

Matzo Brei

On Passover and since I was little boy I couldn't wait to have my father make me his version of Matzah Brei. Now we get to share it with you. What better way to start your day than with your family. Happy Eating!

What is Matzah Brei?
A traditional dish for Passover brunch, this egg and matzo fry can be made sweet, topped with cinnamon sugar or jelly, or savory, with additions of your favorite vegetables and fresh herbs.

Ingredients
Five matzo crackers
Five brown eggs
Whole Milk
salt and pepper to taste

Cooking Instructions
Take the matzo and break into small pieces into a bowl
In a bowl, beat the eggs with salt and pepper and just a touch of milk to fluff-up the eggs, then add the matzah
Let Matzah soak in eggs & Mix well
Heat frying pan with a little butter
Pour mixture into the pan
Brown one side and turn over

Passover - Seder Plate


I thought it would be a nice idea to provide my friends and clients alike with an overview of the Seder Plate this Passover.

The Seder Plate:

The Seder Plate (Ka'arah) includes most of the ingredients that go into the making of the Seder. Its three matazahs and the six other items are arranged in a formation dictated by their significance and relationship vis-a-vis each other.
Here's how you set it up:
On top of a large plate, tray or cloth place three whole matzahs, one on top of the other.
Cover the matzahs with a cloth or tray.

On top, position the following six items as pictured above right:
1) "Zeroa" - a roasted chicken bone with most of the meat removed. This will represent the Passover offering. It will not be eaten.
2) "Beitzah" - a hard-boiled egg, representing the festival offering.
3) "Maror" - grated horseradish (just the horseradish -- not the red stuff that has vinager and beets added) and/or romaine lettuce, for use as the "bitter herbs".
4) "Charoset" - a paste made of apples, pears, nuts and wine. We'll be dipping the bitter herbs in this.
5) "Karpas" - a bit of vegetable, such an onion or potato.
6) "Chazeret" -- more bitter herbs, for use in the matzah-maror sandwich.

We'll also need a wine cup or goblet for each participant, and plenty of wine!
And a dish of salt water (in which to dip the Karpas).
